Bell Tower

Koh Kret should only be visited on Saturday or Sunday, because only then is it an experience, hence Sabai Sabai, a word that expresses cosy in Thai. The small island was created in 1722 in the north of Bangkok by the straightening of the Chao Praya River. Koh Kret was settled in earlier times by the Mon's, a minority who specialised in pottery, hence the remains of kilns can still be found on the island. Our journey continues north by express boat, passing through large and small bridges, some of them historic, on our way.Close to our destination you will see the distinctive bell tower from a distance, which still has a working bell with a beautiful sound. We reach our destination pier, where we then leave the express boat in the direction of the market.

Chau Guoy

Our first destination is the small stalls on the pier offering traditional delicacies. A few market women sell one or two delicacies that you can taste. A dessert called chau guoy bathed in ice water, which looks like liquorice, is a national delicacy and refreshing. The ice water liquorice is put in a plastic bag and eaten on the way. Plastic bags or polystyrene boxes of all sizes are used to pack food in the market. One can buy a meal packed in the plastic bag for about 30 Bath. Then it is time to leave the square and from here we have to change to the means of transport TukTuk or taxi, as the pier is the last stop and the boats go back.

Koh Kret can be recognised by the distinctive sign, the sloping white chedi that marks the island. We cross the Lat Kret River by small ferry and find ourselves on the historic island. Our first destination is the temple with the ordination hall, followed by a visit to the small museum. In the museum you will see many kinds of pottery and replicas of the kilns that were traditional here, which we will still see in the original. Afterwards we walk along a narrow path through the market, which leads us to the northern part of the island. Many handicraft but also machine-made products are offered here. Characteristic for the market are always the traditional dishes, which are prepared on small grills with a lot of flavour.

Our first destination is the temple with the ordination hall, followed by a visit to the small museum. On weekends, a lot of Thais come here to consolidate their faith and to bring donations and, of course, to buy the traditional food that is offered here. Then we go to the museum where you can see many kinds of pottery and replicas of the kilns that were traditional here. Traditional handicraft tools and utensils that were needed to live are on display here. Of course, we will show you these kilns in the original during our tour.  Since the island is fantastically beautiful and must be seen, you can, if you wish, go around the island on the back of a motorbike.

Coffee Shop

You can see the enchanting nature and get an overview of the dreamlike island. Arrived at the southwestern point of the island, we continue on foot through the small alley that leads us past many teak houses. Kilns from the previous century testify to handicraft tradition, and sometimes a spirit house shows us culture and customs that are still celebrated today. Then we have earned a snack or a drink or two, and we go to a small garden inn, which is very cosy and rustic at the same time. An original brewed coffee, traditionally heated on charcoals, gives an idea of the strength. Afterwards we go back to the ferry, cross the River and we bring you back to the starting point of the tour.
