As always, we start our interesting tour by express boat. Our journey takes us to one of the most magnificent temples in Thonburi, Wat Arun, also called the Temple of Dawn. We walk through the area of Wat Arun which you can visit as part of the Bangkok Highlight Tour. We leave the temple at the back and you will see the monks' quarters and the old townhouses of the residents. From here you can take nice photos of Wat Arun from the back, then we leave the area and go to the next highlight.

Continue through the narrow streets past the old Ford Wichai Prasit, and if you look into the area, you will see the old Wang Derm Palace, where King Taksin reigned. Today the Royal Navi is located in the complex and unfortunately you are not allowed to enter. Through small narrow streets we reach Wat Moli Lok Ya Ram Ratchaworawihan, which dates back to the Ayuttaya period. With its European-Thai style, this temple is one of the few that houses novices and trains them in Buddhism. We would like to show you how they live here. From the age of 7, children can live in the temple as novices. You also have to see the small chapel where salt used to be stored, which was very valuable.

Our journey through time continues and we go to the Ton Son Mosque, which houses interesting things. This mosque also dates from the Ayuttaya period and the site was bequeathed to the Islamists by King Taksin. It is important to know that not only the Buddhist faith was lived in the royal family, but also the Islamist faith. The royal pharmacists who mixed medicinal herbs for the royal family were also buried here. Afterwards, we go to the Chao Praya River and enjoy the view of the lively river with its boats and continue towards the Santa Cruz Church, which unfortunately is only open on Sundays. But even from the outside it is an imposing jewel that you simply have to see.

We pass the Kuan Yin Shrine, an old Chinese spirit house right on the Chao Praya River, which is very famous and often used as a backdrop in Thai films. King Taksin rewarded the Portuguese soldiers who fought with him against the Burmese in Ayuttaya in 1767 with land. This is also how the Church of Santa Cruz was built in Thonburi. The church was built near Taksin's royal palace in Thonburi, the new capital of Siam. The event is dated 14 September Day of the Glorification of the Holy Cross (Santa Cruz) in the Catholic liturgy. The first church was completed in 1770 and was made of teak. The church burnt down in 1833, after which a new church was built, already made of masonry.

Along the river with a beautiful view we arrive at Prayurawongsawas Waraviharn Temple, also called Wat Prayoon or Turtle Temple, because it has a very beautiful turtle pond. Before entering the area of the Chedi, one passes through a small museum that houses ancient and valuable Buddha relics. A very elaborate steel construction was used to raise this Chedi and stabilise it inside, as it was leaning to one side. If you go up or down the river by express boat, you can see the slanting position very well. The exit, from inside the Chedi, will surprise you. Impressed by this extraordinary place, we leave it and head for our next destination.

Afterwards, experience a TukTuk ride that is sure to please as we pass many traditional street kitchens and shops. We drive to one of the oldest and most traditional markets in Thonburi. Only insiders come here, so you will see almost no tourists. Beautiful spirit houses, old town houses and happy, smiling and friendly people invite you to take a walk. There are plenty of traditional Thai dishes, which you should try. A delicacy here are Moo Sa Te skewers cooked on long grills, enjoy the old Thonburi at this wonderful market. After sightseeing, we leave the area and take the ferry to the Bangkok side, from where we take the express boat back to the starting point.
